If you were wondering what the Cantankerous Camel’s view is on the current IDF operation in the Gaza Strip, as I’m sure you all were, it’s nothing but 100% support for it. There should be absolutely no negotiations with terrorists. It’s a terrible situation and I’m sure if I was a relative of Gilad Shalit then I would say the exact opposite. But to negotiate with terrorists and capitulate to their demands will simply perpetuate the problem and lead to more abductions, more bombings and more terrorism in general. If there’s one thing we can learn from the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza it’s that surrendering to terrorists only emboldens them.
Sadly, this is a lesson which Olmert still hasn’t learnt as he said this morning (10.7.06) he is still intent on carrying out his crazy ‘convergence’ plan. As of the 9th of June, some fifty-six percent of Israelis oppose a unilateral withdrawal from the Yehudah and Shomron (a.k.a West Bank). I can only imagine how much further this support has dropped in the wake of recent events. The peacenik camp in Israel has finally, but belatedly woken up to this concept and even Olmert’s own ministers are coming out against the plan.
I also think the tactic of arresting the Hamas ‘politicians’ is a masterstroke, we should treat Hamas for what they are, thugs and criminals dressed up in suits. It gladdens my heart to know that Haniyeh and al-Zahar scuttle from one hide-out to another in fear of an Apache helicopter. A terrorist is a terrorist no matter what clothes he wears and no matter how hard the rest of the world tries to pretend that these so-called politicians are civilised human beings.
The UN, EU and all those nefarious ‘human rights’ groups can whitter on as much as they like about war crimes and international law. The message is this: if you start a fight don’t piss and moan when someone picks up the gauntlet and thumps you one.

the thing is, you can say we shouln't negotiate, but, bearing in mind we do, and everyone knows it,and that we negotiate for bodies let alone live soldiers, and bearing in mind that even if we don't negotiate and make a stand on this poor soldier, the media attention on a kidnapping is 10000 times as much as on a death, they have every incentive to kidnap our troops anyway and always will. Therefore, there is not much point in saying, if we negotiate, they'll have even more reason, that's true but since everyone knows how sacred our soldiers are to us, they will always try as hard as they can to kidnap them. therefore I say, get them back each time and make the stakes as low as possible for us, and try and avoid this happening in the first place. After all, one soldier since nachshon waxman- not bad.
